A second chance for every animal
We exist to give every stray and unwanted animal in our community a second chance. Our goals are simple and unwavering.
- Provide compassionate, loving care to stray and unwanted animals and place them in wonderful homes.
- Prevent pet overpopulation through affordable spay and neuter services.
- Work to end animal cruelty in Pike County.
- Educate our community to advance the highest standards of animal welfare.
Our story
From a network of foster homes to a no-kill shelter
PALS Rescue was founded by a group of concerned Pike County citizens — its roots trace back to the Pike Animal League and Shelter. Our long-term dream was bigger than fostering: to build and operate a true no-kill shelter in our rural county.
2002
Founded as a network of foster homes — arranging temporary care, working with local vets, and finding homes for mistreated animals.
2007
The IRS approves PALS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Soon after, the Pike County Board of Supervisors donates a three-acre tract of land.
2010
The community raises enough to break ground. That year alone, PALS finds forever homes for 134 dogs and 35 cats.
2011
Ground breaks in January on a 3,000-square-foot shelter with 18 indoor/outdoor kennels, exam and surgery rooms, a cat room, isolation, and a greeting space.
Since then, our rescue and adoption numbers have grown year after year — thanks to a community that refuses to give up on animals.

No. PALS Rescue is an independent 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue. We are not a humane society and not a government animal control facility — we're a community-driven organization run largely by volunteers.
PALS Rescue is 100% privately funded through donations, fundraisers, and community support. We receive no government funding, and our board of directors serves as volunteers without compensation.
